Girvan Primary’s football team played two matches at a mini tournament for the league plate.
Dalmilling and Monkton were the opponents for Girvan with the winners playing the winners of another mini tournament involving three other schools.
Against Dalmilling Girvan showed their superiority in the first half with ross Windsor opening the scoring with a sensational goal rocketing into the top right hand corner. Cameron Alcroft then lofted a ball high towards the opposing goal where an unfortunate defender couldn’t avoid heading into his own net. Dalmilling pulled one back but Calum McDowall made it 3-1 for Girvan.
Ross scored his second soon after but Dalmilling again equalised before Calum scored a fabulous free kick. Dalmilling pulled the score back to 5-3 but Cameron Alcroft scored with a wonderful chipped effort to make the final score 6-3.
Girvan found it much harder going against the taller and more athletic Monkton.
The visitors were held back in their own half for much of the first period and were 2-0 down at half time. However in a much improved second half Girvan had more of the ball and attacked with confidence and flair. Cameron Alcroft scored a good goal following some fine passing play. With the visitors desperate for an equaliser and time running out, Girvan dominated possession with Cameron Alcroft’s seemingly goalbound effort coming agonisingly off the post. Unfortunately the whistle blew before the inevitable equaliser came.
