Girvan to play cup tie on the road

Girvan FC’s Scottish Junior Cup tie with Rutherglen Glencairn was postponed on Saturday for a fourth time.

And Scottish Junior Football Association rules mean that Girvan will now have to forfeit home advantage as the tie must now be played elsewhere.

At the time of the Gazette going to press a final decision on a venue had yet to be decided.

However, Girvan boss Alan Cotton said that it “looks like” the game will be being played at Largs Thistle 3G pitch on Sunday 16th February with a kick off time of 2pm.

Cotton also revealed that approaches to fellow Ayrshire sides Troon FC and Irvine Meadow to use their parks had been turned down.

“The Meadow are away in the Scottish Cup and all the committee are too so that’s sort of understandable.

“I don’t understand Troon’s refusal though. As far as I know it’s a council park as well but they’ve treated my team with contempt since the Ardagh tie when we beat them three nil.”

If the tie does go ahead at Largs’s Barrfields Park, the two teams will enjoy a £700,000 state of the art playing surface which was opened in September 2012 by Euro Millionaires Colin and Chris Weir.

The fourth round tie was officially scheduled for 18th January but bad weather has meant the Hamilton Park pitch has been waterlogged on each of the last four Saturdays.

The winner will enjoy a glamour home draw against cup favourites Bo’Ness United in the next round.

Girvan last played on Saturday 11th January drawing 0-0 away to Saltcoats in the Ayrshire District League whilst opponents Rutherglen currently occupy 10th place in the division above Girvan, the Super League first division.

The latest winners of the clubs 50/50 draw were Jeff Fisher c/o SAC who won £83 and Anita c/o Kicks who won £74.50.
