Girvan win thrilling encounter with Ayr

A newly-strengthened Ayr Juniors were the visitors to Carrick Academy to face Girvan Youth U16s in what turned out to be a thrilling encounter.

Ayr Juniors started very brightly winning every challenge and dominating the midfield, but after some neat play Taylor opened the scoring to put Girvan in the lead.

The rest of the first half was evenly contested with both teams having chances but Girvan added another through Rice before the break.

Girvan brought on Gillespie, Allison, Storrie, Holland and Nesbitt at half time, and the changes made an immediate impact with Girvan dominating the start of the second half.

Girvan were awarded a free kick just inside the Ayr half, Dorans swung in an inch perfect cross which was met by the head of Storrie and ended up in the net despite the efforts of the Ayr defence.

Ayr Juniors were then awarded a penalty which they converted with ease after Ross pulled back the onrushing striker in the box.

Rice rounded of another brilliant performance with another goal before being replaced.

With minutes remaining Ayr Juniors added another goal to finish the game Girvan Youth 4 Ayr Juniors 2.

Man of the match was Brandon Rice and next week Girvan are away to Bellfield Colts.
