Girvan Youth through to the semi-finals

Girvan Youth hosted Ayr Juniors in the quarter final of the League Cup at Carrick Academy on a cold windy Sunday.

Girvan without captain Jamie Dorans (injured) and Ryan O’Neil (cup tied) rearranged formation again and got off to the perfect start as Rice floated in a lovely cross which was met by the head of David Barrett who’s powerful header hit the back of the net.

Barrett then went on to hit a series of chances which were saved by the Ayr keeper.

Ayr Juniors started to creep into the game forcing Ross to make saves and before half time Ayr were awarded a corner which was excellently executed. Boons head diverted it into his own net to make it 1-1 at half time.

The opening stages of the 2nd half was quiet a flat drawn out affair with both parties creating little chances.

Girvan brought on Allison, Kelly &Taylor and the fresh legs made an immediate impact as Taylor set up Gracie who rifled home.

Taylor then turned his marker and slotted past the Ayr keeper, and Gracie finished off the match after some really neat play in the middle of the park resulted in Gracie receiving the ball skipped past two defenders and blasting past the helpless Ayr keeper.

Girvan left it late but deserved the win; they will now face Crosshouse in the semi-final at Dam park date TBC.

Man of the match with an outstanding performance was David Barrett.

Next Sunday Girvan are away to Galston on league duty.
