Girvan youths on goal trail

Girvan Youth U15s travelled up to Stevenson to take on TASS Saltire in what was to be a game of two halves and a spectacular comeback for Girvan.

Girvan were without McCulloch and Storrie through injury but had four new signings from last season; Calvin Tisor, Connor Gracie, Jamie McAvoy and Lee Nesbit who all added much needed strength to the squad.

TASS started the better of the teams with total dominance of the midfield, Girvan finding it difficult with the physical presence of the TASS boys.

TASS opened the scoring after 10 minutes. Taylor was robbed in the midfield then Barrett beaten for pace before the ball was squared and Rae slotted past Gillespie in goal. Three minutes later TASS were awarded a penalty after stand-in centre half Hamilton made a rash challenge inside the box. Rae again stepped up to slot home past Gillespie.

Before half time Girvan were three down this time Tisor losing possession then a catalogue of errors allowed Rae to claim his hat trick.

Girvan rearranged things in the second half moving Dorans back into midfield and bringing on Nesbit, T. Smith and Allison.

This new look Girvan were soon back in the game, Gracie now playing up front gave the TASS defence a torrid time and his penetrating run led to Girvans first, McAvoy bundling the ball over the line after some desperate defending from TASS.

Girvan pulled another back, this time Dorans now more effective in the midfield raced past a couple of defenders and rifled home.

Girvan now pressing for the equaliser brought Rice back on and he linked up well with Gracie before picking out McAvoy who slammed home the equaliser.

TASS then had the opportunity to go back in front after being awarded another penalty, this time Smith with the challenge which looked outside the box, but this time Jennings stepped up but he ballooned it over the bar.

With five minutes remaining Gracie now playing on the wing played a neat pass to Kelly who played him back in before being bulldozed in the box and a penalty to Girvan. Up stepped Dorans to blast into the net and keep Girvan’s perfect start to the league intact.

Man of the match for this one and a big welcome back to Girvan was Connor Gracie.

This Tuesday Girvan play their first home game of the season against Ayr Juniors with a 6.30pm kick off, the boys are away to TASS Braves on Saturday for a very difficult Scottish cup tie.

Girvan Youth Girls had even further to travel when they made the trip up to Hamilton to take on Hamilton Accies. It was the the opposite from the boys as the girls came out of the traps flying Rachael hitting Girvan’s first.

Hamilton equalised after a mix up between Hannah and Chazza allowed their striker to nip in and score past Shannon.

Becky put Girvan ahead again after Tiny T fed a well weighted pass through. Both Rachel and Becky scored again before halftime with two individual goals both running from halfway dribbling past the defence and slotting home.

Girvan made changes at halftime bringing on Ellie, Lucianna and Courtney and Becky went on the offensive again this time squaring it to Ellie whose rocket of a shot went inches over. Hamilton tried hard to get back into the game and got another goal back. Tiny T was next on the scoresheet after Lucianna played her in. Rachel then got her hat trick, Courtney this time the provider and then got a fourth. Tiny T commanding the midfield played the ball the Rachel who rounded the keeper and slotted home.

Tiny T added another with a 20 yard beauty. Before full time Hamilton who never gave up got a third and the game finished Hamilton Accies 3 Girvan Youth 8. Player of the match was Tiny T with a fantastic performance. Next Saturday Girvan are away on another trek when they travel up to play Strathaven.
