Junior teams hope to play this weekend

The entire junior football programme was called off on Saturday due to the weather conditions which included snow, ice and high winds.

That meant a false start for new Girvan boss Peter Leonard who was set to take charge of his first game as Seasiders boss at Saltcoats after being appointed earlier this month.

Leonard and his assistants Chris Flannigan and Steven McNally joined Girvan after leaving Maybole at the end of last year but face the toughest task in junior football with Girvan only picking up a solitary point so far this season against Saltcoats in November.

Leonard’s team will try to play Saltcoats again this Saturday with kick off at 1.45pm in North Ayrshire.

The latest winner of Girvan’s 50/50 club draw was Margaret Shanks who won £52.

Meanwhile, Maybole who had a free week scheduled even without the weather playing havoc look set to be sitting out for a second week in succession due to the fixtures from Saturday being rescheduled for this weekend.

Carlo Walker’s side are currently locked in a battle for promotion in the Super League first division but lost last time out at Greenock and are keen to get back into match action.

The club’s Twitter account said that they are looking for a fixture as “sitting off with no fixtures for two weeks is a joke.”
