Latest news from Brunston Castle golf club

It’s nice to be writing this week’s column looking out at blue skies! The course has been playing beautifully of late so it is nice to have the weather to match!

Saturday saw our first open competition of the year and a return of the texas scramble to our fixture list. The feedback from the players was great so hopefully we will see them all back next year along with many more teams.

The winning team for 2014 was S Cochrane, A McWilliam, J Forsyth and L Yair. They finished with a nett score of 58.8. Second place went to D Barry, A Breadon, L Barry and J McCluskey who scored 59.1.

There were a lot of good scores and two teams managing to shoot below 60 was fantastic scoring.

Dad’s Army also had a texas scramble competition this week, on Monday the 9th. Jack Bainbridge, Jim McCreadie, Jim Millar and John McCormick were the winners with a 9 hole score of 30.4.

Wednesday the 11th saw another team competition with the ladies playing their qualifier for the Daily Mail Foursomes. Yvonne Casbolt and Norma Sadler were the winners. We wish them the best of luck representing the club in the next round.

The only individual competition this week was the men’s yellow tee medal. Brian Edwards was first with a nett 72, second was Ronnie Simpson with 75 and third place was Allan McWilliam with 76.

July is a busy month with three open competitions: the gents’ open, the seniors’ (men and ladies) 55+ open and the ladies greensomes. If you would like to play in any of these please call or email for a tee time.
