Having scored five goals in their last two outings, Maybole Juniors were on the receiving end of losing five goals on Saturday as Pollok ran out 5-2 winners at Ladywell Stadium.
After an even opening quarter to the game which saw Maybole’s Kenneth Parris force visiting keeper Ross Harkness into a fine save and Pollok’s Finlay Frye clip the outside of the work, it was the visitors who took the lead in the 26th minute.
Tam Hanlon rushed onto a through ball from Davie Winters and he slotted beyond Scott Johnstone in the Maybole goal.
Better was to follow for Pollok four minutes later when Kieran McAleenan’s ball to the edge of the area was met with a back heel by Winters who scored the first of an eventual hat-trick.
Maybole responded well though as Parris set up Robert Patterson for a shot which was blocked by Harkness before Parris headed wide from a corner.
However, Pollok were to score their third on the half time interval with Hanlon scoring his second of the game despite the best efforts of Scott Johnstone.
Maybole came out in the second half full of purpose with substitute Craig Reid looping a header over from Scott Dinwoodie’s cross before Patterson had an effort cleared off the line by McAleenan.
On 64 minutes Maybole did reduce the deficit with Parris dispossessing Pollok captain Paul Gallacher and bursting away to score.
However Pollok’s three goal lead was restored on 67 minutes when Hanlon;s corner bounced up awkwardly and struck David Cunningham on the arm leading to a penalty which was put away by Winters.
Winters completed his hat-trick on 72 minutes when a fine move on the left wing allowed Winters to play a one-two with Frye in the box before rounding Johnstone to score.
Maybole didn’t lie down though with Parris, Cunningham and Stuart McGrady all creating chances to no avail. On 89 minutes McGrady scored a consolation penalty for Maybole in the 89th minute after Patterson was fouled in the area.
Maybole remain third in the first division table and face a trip to Thorniewood this Saturday with kick off at 2pm.
