Maybole Juniors are set for an emotional return to action on Saturday when they play Shettleston.
The Ladywell Stadium side haven’t played on the last two weekends following the tragic death of their captain Stuart McGrady at the end of last month at the age of just 29.
McGrady had captained and scored in his side’s 3-0 league win over Ardeer on February 28 but passed away hours later that evening.
McGrady had also played for Ayr United and Queens Park in a career that saw him earn respect across the Scottish game.
Now his side are set to play their first game without their inspirational captain when they take the trip to Shettleston to tackle their fellow Superleague first division rivals in a West of Scotland Round Two cup tie.
Carlo Walker’s men were in good form last month and have risen up to second in the league table as they aim to continue their bid for promotion to the Premier Division.
They will face a tough task though against a Shettleston side who have only lost two league games all season, although the Glasgow side did lose to Auchinleck Talbot 4-1 in the Scottish Junior Cup at the weekend.
The game kicks off at 2pm in Glasgow’s East End with extram time and penalties required to settle the tie if necessary if the teams are level after 90 minutes of normal time.
It is unknown at the moment who Maybole would face in the next round if they were to win on Saturday.
