New crop of players start schools league

The South Ayrshire schools league and cup season for 2013-2014 has started at long last. While Girvan Primary say goodbye and good luck to last year’s P7’s who are now in the academy, we say hello to our new crop of P6 players.

On Wednesday 4 December Girvan Primary School played Doonfoot Primary at Hamilton Park in Girvan in a qualification game to decide what league they will go into later on in the season. The score was 8-3 to Doonfoot.

Girvan were mostly kept back in their own half for most of the first half while the skilful visitors piled on the pressure unrelentingly. Although Mason McIllwraith came close on one occasion, it was no surprise when the score at half-time was 5-0.

In the second half Doonfoot scored another three goals in succession and a complete rout was on the cards. However, half time substitutes Alan Harkness and Kenny Sloan started to make further inroads into the opposition’s half. In the last few minutes their efforts paid off when they scored threee quick goals between them, Alan’s coming either side of Kenny’s goal.

Girvan’s spirits lifted and they became more offensive and confident in their play.

However, it was too little too late and the game ended with three points going to the visitors.

Well done to Kenny Sloan, Mason McIllwraith, Mason Brooks, Bailey Agnew, Blake Sloan, Calum Ingram and Leighton Warnock who played their debuts for the club.

Many thanks go to Mrs Clark for transport and refreshments and to the parents who turned up to support Girvan.
