GIRVAN Football Club began the new season at home on Monday when they played Whitletts Victoria.

But a refreshed squad of players and new management team was not enough to secure a victory for the club, who lost 1-0 to the opposition.

The team have a match-packed few weeks ahead in the Ardagh Glass Sectional League Cup, with their next fixture away to Craigmark Burntonians on Wednesday.

Saturday will see them face Annbank United away - kick off is at 2pm - while they play closer to home on Monday August 13 when they come up against Maybole away.

The team’s second home match - and the last in the Sectional League - will be next Wednesday August 15 when opposition Troon come down the coast.
