One of the first people to congratulate local curler Vicki Adams on her Olympic bronze medal was Wigtownshire’s other Olympic medallist Margaret Agnew from Leswalt.

Under her maiden name Morton, Margaret won Olympic gold at the Salt Lake City Winter Games in 2002 as alternate for the rink skipped by Rhona Martin. That team put curling on the map by sensationally winning the gold medal when beating Switzerland with the last stone of the game.

Since then, Ayrshire-born Margaret has moved down to the Rhins area after marrying Leswalt farmer and curler John Agnew. The couple now have a young son Thomas.

Margaret, who still curls regularly, said: “My congratulations to Vicki. A very well deserved medal for all the hard work and commitment she has put in over the last few years. It will be great to see her again and hear about her Olympic experience. I hope it will be gold next time in South Korea, as they are a really talented team with youth on their side.”
