Primary schools in 5-4 football thriller

On Wednesday 22 January Girvan Primary School played Gardenrose Primary at Carrick Primary. In a closely fought game the score was 5-4 to Girvan.

Girvan were dominant at the start of the game with Kenny Sloan controlling the centre of midfield and Aaron Mooney and Mason Brook supplying wonderful passing and attacking play from the wings and were three goals up courtesy of Aaron, Alan Harkness and Kenny. Although Gardenrose pulled a goal back before half time it was Girvan who were in charge of the game.

In the second half Gardenrose began to assert themselves and scored after a quick break on goal. Girvan’s three goal lead was restored when Alan scored two goals in quick succession to earn a well-deserved hat trick. Although the game’s result seemed beyond doubt, Girvan had to endure a nail biting climax as Gardenrose scored two more goals to make the score 5-4. With Gardenrose’s confidence high and an equaliser within sight, the home side were relentless in their attacks on goal but Girvan held out for a deserved win.

Congratulations to Alan Harkness for his hat trick and to Aiden Agnew and Jack Brittain who played their debuts for the club.

Many thanks go to Mrs Clark for transport and refreshments and to all the parents who turned up to support Girvan.
