Maybole Juniors kept up their bid for promotion with a 2-0 win over bottom side Largs at Ladywell Stadium on Saturday.
The win moves Carlo Walker’s side up to second in the Superleague First Division, albeit they have played five games more than third placed Shettleston.
In all sorts of weather conditions, a competitive match was fought out as Largs were left to rue a missed penalty which could have seen them earn a shock win.
A goal from Andy Stevenson was the difference between the sides at the break as he looped home a header into the top of the net.
With 64 minutes on the clock, Largs were given a golden opportunity to equalise when Euan Lindsay broke through and Scott Johnstone brought him down.
However, Sean Pierce’s spot kick was saved by Johnstone and Maybole raced down the other end. They took advantage of a poor clearance and a cross into the box was diverted home by David Cunningham.
Maybole’s next game is away at Ardeer on Saturday (28 February) at 2pm as they look to win as many of their remaining games as possible.
