Stranraer get off the mark

Stranraer 2

Berwick Rangers 1

IT was a case of third time lucky for Stranraer on Saturday as they finally claimed their first win of the new league season.

Goals from Cristopher Aitken and Craig Malcolm proved enough for the Blues to see off Berwick Rangers at Stair Park.

Keith Knox’s men opened the scoring just after the hour, which sparked a frenzied 15-minute spell in the match. Aitken found himself with enough time and space before drilling home a lovely right-footed shot from the edge of the area.

And they extended their lead just four minutes later when Malcolm unleashed a teriffic drive from 20 yards into the top-right-corner.

However, not to be outdone, Berwick replied with an even better strike from Fraser McLaren, when he connected with Andrew McLaren’s pass to hit a 35-yard-stunner in the 76th minute.

The visitors pushed for an equaliser, but the Blues held out to secure the win and lift themselves off the bottom of the third division.
