Vale of Girvan got their league season off to a flying start on Saturday when they beat Darvel Victoria 4-2 at Victory Park.
The amateur side who are in the Truck Point Third Division have brought in many ex junior players and have high hopes of promotion this season.
And the new look Vale got off to the perfect start against Darvel when they scored in the first minute of the game.
A neat one-two between Darren Mitchell and John McMillan in the midfield set up Darren Mitchell to slot home.
Darvel were level when they were awarded a penalty after a tussle in the box and the penalty was converted.
Ten minutes before half time Vale of Girvan were back in front when a long ball from Sandy Robertson was brilliantly brought down by Alex McComb leaving the Darvel defender in his wake. McComb slotted home to make it 2-1.
McComb got his second after half time when a long ball from Steven Espie was knocked on my Mitchell and McComb went round the Darvel keeper and put the ball into the empty net.
McComb turned provider for Vale’s fourth when he dinked a ball up to the back box where Bob Ashworth’s volley was thumped against the bar but Nathan Smith was on hand to follow on.
Darvel got their second late on with another penalty after a coming together in the box but Vale weren’t to be denied all three points.
Ross McKenzie put in a terrific performance in the Vale defence ensuring it was well marshalled.
Vale are away to Minishant tonight (Wednesday) at Kewnston Park with kick off at 6.45pm before they tackle New Cumnock Afton away on Saturday at 2pm.
