Vale of Girvan come out on top against Kilmarnock

This week saw the Vale of Girvan play 1st division side Kilmarnock AFC in a cup tie that would show both the management and players how far they have progressed as a team.

In a fine, close match it was the Vale that deservedly came out on top. Callum Thompson opened the scoring after only twelve minutes when he broke down the left wing before firing home.

On the half hour mark Thompson got himself on the score sheet once again, unfortunately it was in the wrong net as the ball spun off him into the net from a corner that was delivered low into the Vale box.

Both teams pressed forward looking to take the advantage before the break. With both defences playing well the break was reached all square.

With fifty-seven minutes gone it was the home side that made the breakthrough which would eventually prove to be the winner.

Fraser Reid rifled the ball into the back of the net from a free kick some twenty-five yards out.

Another fine result from the Vale as their season continues to go from strength to strength.
