Youth teams finish off fine season

Girvan Youth finished off a fine season with a win and a draw this week.

First up on Monday night was Craigie Colts at KGV.

Girvan opened the scoring in the first two minutes with a fine goal from Taylor, Kelly on one of his rampaging runs added a 2nd with a fine drive which went in of the underside of the bar.

Craigie then scored from the penalty spot after Boon fouled in the box.

Dorans gave Girvan a two goal cushion going into the interval and allowed Girvan to make changes.

Storries fresh legs were giving Craigie all sorts of problems and he helped himself to a couple of goals.

Smith made it six from a thunderous free kick then his brother Thomas made it seven.

Girvan wrapped the game up and Barrett made it 8 for Girvan, man of the match was Jack Smith.

Girvan then travelled up to Stevenson to take on TASS Braves who were needing a win to secure the league.

Girvan determined to spoil the party made the perfect start Storrie whipping in a cross which deflected off the defender and into the net.

Girvan went two up with what could be a contender for goal of the season Hamilton driving from the midfield curled the ball into the top corner.

Tass pushing forward pulled a goal back, this gave them a boost and they equalised before the break.

Rice restored Girvans lead after the break and the game began to get fiercely contested with some meaty challenges going in against Girvan which were going unpunished.

TASS equalised again with a looping effort, then Taylor who was very lively gave Girvan the lead with a training ground free kick, Dorrans stepping up to hit it instead of shooting he chipped the wall to the awaiting Taylor who fired the ball in.

With minutes remaining TASS equalised to get a share of the points and with 1 game remaining now need to hope for a slip up from Crosshouse or KSC Town who are both title contenders.

Man of the match for this one was Kyle McCulloch.

Girvan are now preparing for the Giffnock Tournament in June with a series of friendlies against older teams and Pro Youth team .

Girvan Youth Girls had a Scottish Cup tie in monsoon conditions on Saturday at Victory park against Kilburnie.

With Shannon injured Hannah stepped into goals, Girvan got the perfect start Rachel opened the scoring with a fine drive.

Kilburnie equalised then Tiny T restored Girvans lead with a fine drive from midfield.

Becky gave Girvan a two goal cushion going in to half time with a well hit free kick.

After the break Wee McD got her first of the day with a fine strike.

Kilburnie then started there come back with 2 quick fire goals and with seconds remaning equalised to take the tie into extra time.

In extra time Kilburnie showed they were the fitter team and went 2 goals up Wee McD added her 2nd of the day but it wasn’t enough and Kilburnie marched on to the next stages of the Scottish cup.

Player of the match was Courtney Clark with her best performance of the season so far.
