Recently the Rotary Club of Girvan had a superb talk on Human Rights from a young American student, Jordon Koletic.
Jordon who graduated from Miami University, in Oxford, Ohio (United States) left University in May 2012 with a double major in International Relations and Journalism and is now studying Human Rights and International Politics at the University of Glasgow.
To help her pay for this she has received a Rotary International Global Grant for her master’s studies here in Scotland. While an undergraduate, she studied for five months in the eastern African countries of Kenya and Tanzania and while there she lived with four different homestay families.
She was also able to talk about her internship as an investigative reporter for KosovaLive, based in Pristina, KosovoI. With all this involvement she was an invited speaker at the 2014 Rotary United Nations Day at the UN headquarters in New York City where she spoke about women’s health in eastern Africa, specifically around Female Genital Mutilation (FGM).
Jorden then left her studies for a while and joined Wells Fargo & Co. in Charlotte, NC on the Wealth and Investment Management team as a Strategy/Analytics Consultant. She got married and then very soon made her way to Glasgow University.
But what did Jordon do for ‘fun’, well, she swam for her University in Miami and is a 2nd Degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do, being good enough to go to the Junior Olympics in Tampa, Florida .
The audience all enjoyed Jordon’s talk and hope she enjoyed Girvan and her meal at the Royal Hotel.
The club wish her well with her studies at Glasgow University.
