Girvan Flower club hold AGM and demonstration

On Wednesday 28th May, Club Chairman, Margaret Findlay welcomed the large audience to the AGM & Demonstration. During the Chairman’s Report Margaret gave a summary of the years events and thanked everyone for their support throughout the Season.

The Club Office Bearers remain as before. Margaret then announced the retiral of committee member Frances Cunningham, and thanked Frances for her fourteen years service. Fiona Robertson was duly elected to serve.

With the business part of the meeting closed, Margaret then welcomed Demonstrator Christine McKenna on Tour from Dundee.

Christine’s demonstration entitled “A Postcard From.........” soon put us in the mood for travelling. Christine started by packing her Grannies battered suitcase with an abundance of colourful flowers, preparing us for our travels around the globe, we visited Paris courtesy of Las Vegas, with her arrangements in national colours, we had a trip to Japan before heading to Africa where the vibrant colours of her arrangement of Leucadendron, Celosia, Protea and Gerbera set a wonderful holiday atmosphere. Christine interspersed all these arrangements with amusing tales and reminiscences of her world travels, before returning us to United Kingdom where we were welcomed back with her final arrangement in patriotic colours of Bells of Ireland, Red Roses, Allium (Leek), Liatris and Eryngium. What a wonderful globe trotting trip the audience had without leaving Girvan, and the happy raffle winners took their holiday arrangements on another trip home. Liz Gregg gave a most well deserved and appreciative vote of thanks to Christine before everyone retired for a cup of tea.

The final event of the season takes place on Wednesday 25th June in Girvan Community Centre, this is our annual Coffee Evening which will have the usual Tombola Stall, donations for this can be given to committee members. The evening also incorporates a Fashion Show by “Shimmer”. This event is ticket only and tickets (£3) can be purchased from committee members and from “Shimmer”
