Girvan is the place to be this summer

After the success of its summer programme last year, Girvan Youth Trust wants to ensure that the town is the place to be this summer.

The trust has a service level agreement with the council to operate the boating pond and putting green.

There will also be children’s entertainers and activities every Tuesday and Thursday afternoonand demonstrations and kite flying on Thursdays from 10am-4pm provided by Andrew Beattie of TUG.

Music on the Prom will make a welcome return on Sunday afternoons featuring music from the 50s, 60s and 70s.

The boating pond and putting green will be open 12.30pm-5.30pm on Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday and Thursdays as well as holiday Mondays.

Each boat holds four people and costs £3 while the putting is 50 pence per person.

There will be free entertainment every Tuesday at 1.30pm and 3.30pm. Children under eight must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

Programme of entertainers:

1st July – Daffy Dill, 8th July – Silly Gilly, 15th July - Uncly Billy, 22nd July - Scott Cuthbertson ( magician, )29th July – Talking Head Puppets, 5th Aug – Scott Cuthbertson ( magician, 12th Aug – Daffy Dill.

GYT staff and young people will provide free activities every Thursday at 1.30pm and 3.30pm including sand castle competitions, scavenger hunt, teddy bear’s picnic, pirate’s day and mini me Commonwealth Games.

Children under 8 years must be accompanied by a parent/responsible adult at all times.

The free music on the prom will run on Sundays from 1pm-5pm with youngsters playing tracks as well as live music between 3pm-4pm.
