Labour and Tory ‘pact’ in South Ayrshire

THE Conservative and Labour parties in South Ayrshire have agreed a “pact” to work in partnership on the council for the next five years.

South Ayrshire Council will be asked to ratify senior appointments at its first full meeting on Thursday.

The agreement will see Bill McIntosh, Leader of the Conservative Group, bidding to be council leader for a second term and John McDowall, Leader of the Labour Group, bidding to be deputy leader.

Councillor Bill McIntosh said: “This is a great step forward for South Ayrshire. The Partnership Agreement reached with Labour is very welcome and marks the start of a new political era. I believe that our political groups working together means that we can make a positive difference for the people of South Ayrshire.

“Myself and all of the Conservative Group look forward to working with Councillor McDowall and the Labour Group to deliver on the challenging agenda which faces local government in the coming years.”

Councillor John McDowall said: “The Labour Group in South Ayrshire has always focussed on the best interests of the people we serve and that will continue. I believe that a partnership agreement with the Conservative Group provides the best opportunity to deliver for South Ayrshire in the coming years.

“This is a partnership which will make a real difference for the people and Labour councillors are looking forward to working with Conservative colleagues to deliver the best services in South Ayrshire.”
