Some of the Girvan Melody Memories group the performed at Age Concern in Girvan last week.
The group is run by Alzheimer’s Scotland and it aims to help create a dementia friendly community.
Alzheimer Scotland Action on Dementia South Ayrshire Service is holding singing groups throughout this year for people with dementia and their carers.
Girvan Melody Memories is on one Thursday per month from 2.30-4pm at Age Concern, Duff Street, Girvan. There is a small charge of £1.50 per person to cover the cost of refreshments and hall hire. The first meeting was on Thursday February 13 with meetings also on Thursday March 13 and April 15 with other dates to follow.
Singing can be stimulating, uplifting, invigorating, motivating and may help to stimulate memories and release emotion.
You don’t need to be a brilliant singer, just enjoy singing. So if you or the person you care for like singing why not both join us? These groups are for people who are able to attend on their own safely or who can bring their own support with them.
All the groups ran by South Ayrshire Service are entirely funded by fundraising and donations. If you are interested call Jenni McKeand, link worker on 01292 318005.
