Girvan Primary School pupils are set to reap the rewards of fantastic new playground equipment that has been installed at the school.
After a tremendous fundraising effort by the parent council, the equipment was officially opened on Friday 3 May in the school’s quadrangle.
The parent council raised over £8,000 through various fundraising events and were recently successful in gaining a grant of £9,900 from Awards for All Scotland.
That enabled them to purchase £18,000 of equipment which will now be used by the children at the Wesley Road school.
Fundraising events such as their summer fete, prize bingo nights, fashion shows at Mackay and a sponsored jog helped parent council members reach their target.
The sponsored jog undertaken by pupils helped to raise a remarkable £2,500 alone and the parent council would like to thank all the kids and parents who have supported them since fundraising efforts began.
Chair Elaine Mitchell, vice chair Linda Meredith and Kerri Bell opened the equipment on Friday alongside headteacher Gayle Ferguson and some lucky kids who were the first to try it out.
Headteacher Mrs Ferguson said that classes will now be timetabled in order to use the equipment with the Primary 7s hoping to get some extra time due to them leaving soon.
The equipment can also be used in PE classes and is set to be thoroughly enjoyed by the kids at break and lunchtimes as well.
