South Ayrshire Council recogniton of fostering at Carrick Lodge, Ayr

Provost Helen Moonie presented awards to foster carers from South Ayrshire Council’s family placement and adoption services team at a recent ceremony in the Carrick Lodge Hotel.

The awards recognise and honour some exceptional people who, between them, have given over 100 years to the adoption, fostering and well-being of young people.

Pictured with Provost Moonie and Councillor Rita Miller, Portfolio Holder for Social Services (centre, right) are (l-r): Audrey Robertson, who received an award for achievement in training and has also recently achieved a B-Tech award in Advanced Fostering.; Gillian and Robert Baldwin who received awards for long service and commitment to fostering and adoption (35 years); Geraldine and Ian Harrop, who also received long service award and commitment to fostering and adoption (36 years) and Carol and Robin Mason – long service award to fostering and adoption services (26 years).

Fostering and adoption are some of the most rewarding things you can do and children requiring foster carers range in age from babies to teenagers.

Some will live with carers for a short time until they can return to their families, where others may require a longer period of time until they move to a permanent family, through permanent fostering or adoption.

Prospective carers do not require any formal qualifications and people from all walks of life can foster - there is no need to be married, employed, or have children of your own.

As well as recruiting adopters, we are currently investing in recruitment of carers for children 12 years and older and we welcome enquiries from people of all races, religion, or cultures.

If you would like to find out more about fostering and adoption, why not get in touch?

You can call on 01292 267 675, email fostering@south-ayrshire.gov.uk, or drop in for an informal chat with the family placement and adoption services team at the Whitletts Area Centre, 181 Whitletts Road, Ayr, KA8 0JQ.

You won’t just change a young person’s life – you might also change your own!
