Safety first at Ballantrae

IT WILL be safety first for Ballantrae this week as the village hosts its Keeping Ballantrae Safe evening.

Organised by Ballantrae Development Group – a community council sub-committee – and with crime prevention representatives and community police taking part, the event will address issues including road safety and crime rates.

As well as Strathclyde Police officers, also taking part will be South Ayrshire Council Community Safety, Strathclyde Fire and Rescue, Amey, Transport Scotland and the National Farmers Union. The Carrick crime prevention trailer will also be at the venue from 7pm.

The evening will commence at 7.30pm with a short presentation on policing priorities in the area and an overview of crime trends in Girvan and the surrounding villages.

After a short question and answer session, residents will be able to have informal conversations with the experts present on different aspects of public safety.

Stephen Ogston, chairman of the development group, said: “This event will give residents an opportunity to receive advice and examples of good practice from the experts and discuss with them how, if we work together, we can ensure Ballantrae continues to be a safe place in which to live, work and visit.

“We expect this event to highlight a number of issues of concern to residents which the development group and the community council will pursue with the relevant agencies after the event.”

Sgt Mark Hornby, police liaison officer for South Ayrshire Council, said the Girvan and South Carrick Community Policing Team were “delighted” to be associated with it. “What started out as a joint police and community event has developed into something bigger and is now bringing together the various agencies involved in community safety in South Ayrshire,” he said.

“It highlights the partnership approach to making sure Ballantrae is a safe place.”

Keeping Ballantrae Safe presentations will begin at 7.30pm tomorrow (Thursday, September 27) at BRICC House, 12 Main Street, Ballantrae.
