In March 2012 Girvan held a Charrette. This was a series of meetings organised with local people, to help to produce a vision for the future of Girvan and the surrounding villages.
Over 100 people attended the Charrette with many of them eager to put forward their ideas for the future. A document was produced which laid out some of the hopes of the local community for the future. It was decided a Town Team should be established in Girvan. The Town Team has held regular meetings at which local issues have been discussed and residents have been encouraged to suggest projects that could be taken forward. One of the most successful endeavours so far has been the visit of the Food Bus which was very popular.
The Town Team then became a fully constituted group which meant it could attract funding from different places. The decision was then taken that what was needed to progress things was the appointment of a paid Town Team Co-ordinator. The Town Team is open to everyone and which meets on the first Thursday of every month is looking for someone who can liaise with various groups of different ages and experiences, so the Town Team membership can put their ideas into action. The Co-ordinator will also hopefully initiate new ideas to help to rejuvenate the area. While many groups function successfully on their own, it is felt that it would be hugely beneficial if they shared news and experiences.
Further information about the Town Team can be found on the Girvan Online website.
