Girvan Youth made the long travel up to Edinburgh to take on the undefeated Fernieside in the last 16 of the Scottish cup.
It was a glorious sunny winter’s afternoon and both teams put on a pulsating show that you couldn’t gather breath with an end to end match.
Fernieside opened the scoring in the 1st minute winning a corner and with bad marking they had a free header into the net.
Girvan equalised from a penalty after Rice was bundled in the box, Dorans stepped up and slotted home.
Fernieside were then awarded a penalty after Boon barged into their striker who coolly slotted home, they went 3-1 up soon after with another ball into the box that Girvan didn’t deal with.
Girvan’s lively Striker Brandon Rice pulled one back for Girvan Gracie setting him up hard to believe this all happened in the first 15 minutes and Rice equalised before half time Mcavoy playing a clever ball in Rice flipped over the defender and rifled into the net.
With a very exciting first half you would’ve thought thing would settle in the 2nd half.
Fernieside made it 4-3 with another big ball into Girvans box and bundled the ball home.
Girvan equalised with a free kick Dorans floating the ball into the box and the Edinburgh defender headed into his own net.
Fernieside causing Girvan problems with the big ball into the box went in front again with another big ball in.
Rice equalised again with a bit of real genius nutmegging the blasting into the net, he then put Girvan ahead with another fine goal.
Girvan had three good chances to wrap the game, two from Rice and one from Taylor, but with seconds to go Fernieside equalised to take the game to extra time and knock the stuffing out of Girvan.
With their tails up Fernieside got a couple of goals in the first half of extra time and Girvan couldn’t respond and crashed out after a thriller.
Man of the match with a fantastic performance was Brandon Rice.
