Another week of sunshine here at Brunston Castle! It has been enjoyable for the golfers, however, I imagine green keepers all over Ayrshire would love to see some rain. We are quite happy that they are having to use the sprinkler systems instead!
This past week was a mixture of stableford and fourball better ball competitions. Even with the good weather, there were plenty of tales of missed opportunities along with a few lucky escapes. I will resist the urge to “name and shame” anyone though!
Monday the 16th was a 9 hole fourball better ball for Dad’s Army. Ross McGarva and Ronnie Simpson won on countback from Ian Logan and Tom Smith, with both teams finishing on 34. Jim Guthrie and David Nelson were third with 35.
Both the ladies and gents had stableford competitions on Wednesday the 18th. Yvonne Casbolt won the ladies’ competition with 35 points. Marion Whiteford was second with 33 points, on countback from Pat Gray who also scored 33 points.
The gents’ stableford also saw places decided on countback with Kevin McSorley and Hugh Ward tying with 36 points. Kevin won with the better inward nine whilst Jim Millar was third with 34 points.
The gents’ Prudential Rosebowl was held on Saturday the 21st. It is a fourball better ball format and this year was won by Allan Brownlee and Brian Jamieson with a team score of 70. Scott McIlwraith and Gordon Logan’s score of 71 narrowly beat Ronnie Mills and George Scobie, also 71, on countback.
It’s great to see so many close competitions. I hope we see as many members as possible playing well for the rest of the summer. If it stays this competitive there may be more than a few new faces at the prize giving this year!
