The Straiton Struggle Road Race was the weekends big focus for all the members and volunteers of Ayr Roads-Harry Fairbairn BMW-Sprockets.com.

This event, organized and promoted by Ayr Roads CC, has became a very popular Spring time challenge for bike racers from all over Scotland, with a full field of eighty riders making their way to Straiton village hall for the sign-on on Sunday morning.

Conditions for the 50 mile course were favorable, with little in the way of wind and some glimpses of much welcome sunshine. The race route was an anti-clockwise loop between Straiton, Kirkmichael and Crosshill, being ran over 5 laps in total.

The pivotal moment within the race was on lap 3, when Ayr Roads CC rider Kenny Armstrong managed to escape from the main group of riders in an attempt to win the race. The move was a very bold one, with 2 full laps remaining, but Kenny managed to summon the strength, confidence and composure to hold onto his advantage and take a well deserved and memorable win, much to the delight of the assembled local cycling fans. Greg Templeton of Ayr Roads CC topped off a fantastic day for the club with an outstanding performance to take the 2nd podium spot, with Robert Robertson of Glasgow Road Club taking 3rd place. First lady was Gabriella Nordin of Pedal Power Race Team.
