Children at Invergarven School enjoyed a little bit of TV glamour recently when CBeebies called in to cast new recruits for an upcoming show.

The production team from ‘Something Special’ were on hand to put pupils through their paces ahead of a potential appearance on national television.

Built in 1870 Invergarven is a special school for primary and secondary children and young people with complex additional support needs.

Award-winning ‘Something Special’ is broadcast daily on CBeebies, and is aimed at young children with learning and communication difficulties.

The programme teaches a communication system called Makaton, which allows children who are pre-vocal to communicate their feelings to friends, family, and peers.

Julie McManus, Acting Headteacher at Invergarven School, said the children had really enjoyed themselves, “It’s not every day the children get to meet the people behind one of their favourite TV shows, so it was great to welcome the Something Special team.

“They were great with the children, playing games and getting to know them, while our potential TV stars also got a screen test to see how they came across on camera.

“Regardless of what happens next, everyone involved had such a fantastic time and who knows, maybe we’ll all be meeting Mr Tumble and the gang in the not too distant future!”
